Consider applying.įreshman: So far it's good! The departments you reach out to reply quickly and answer your questions they really do try to provide the best help they can. I’m guessing students have too high expectations, thinking it should be.I wouldn't ask to be in another school. I’ve eaten many meals, and never felt the food, as school food, deserves a B or less. The staff and faculty are always patient and helpful.I don’t understand why the food is a D+. They even have a Discord server (”Cal Poly Friendos”) to hang out in. It almost never rains, but when it does, expect a huge shower. The students are nice. The people, the weather, the quarterly-system (soon to be semester in 2026), the delicious food all of it amounts to the perfect campus. The weather here is not too cold nor too hot. Cal Poly may not serve the “best” food, but it definitely serves some of the best school foods I’ve had. Yet that’s unfair, because the average campus meals cost $9, while most expensive ones are $12. I’m guessing students have too high expectations, thinking it should be as great as downtown food. Something else I really enjoy about UCI is the University town center where you can hang out with friends and go on late boba runs or get some insomnia cookies which were such a great boost to my day after classes! Lastly, I would recommend doing picnics at Aldrich park, even walking by the park after classes I enjoyed. Most of the professors I had were very accommodating and made the lesson experience better, especially the psychology courses I took this year along with a sociology course i took as part of a general education requirement. I would say that my experience with professors and classes as a first year was greater than I expected. Freshman: My college experience as a first year at the University of California Irvine was an overall great novel experience especially because I'm not very familiar with Irvine and it was a culture shock to be surrounded by a huge pool of students that come different backgrounds and grew up in different areas.
